Defakto Developer Identity allows you to get SPIFFE Verifiable Identity Documents (SVIDs) for developers.

SVIDs represent traditionally workloads and are used for authentication purposes between themselves. They are issued by the SPIFFE Workload API which is available to them in their runtime environments. Developing such workloads proofs to be a challenge as no Workload API is available on the developers machine. Defakto Developer Identity provides a solution to this challenge.

SPIFFE Verifiable Identity Documents for developers

Defakto Developer Identity is an extension of spirlctl that exposes various ways for developers to retrieve SVIDs for development & integration purposes:

• Fetch and store SVIDs
• Serve SPIFFE Workload API

Retrieved credentials are issued to the developer and carry their identifiers, for example spiffe://example.org/users/arndt.
